Human Resourse management at a club

I serve as a secretary for one of cultural club at Baruch. We had our first meeting for this Spring semester on Tuesday, which followed Thursday schedule.A week ago, our staffs had roughly arranged activities for this semester and talked about this first meeting in details. In our staff meeting, we tried to figure out the weaknesses of our club and tried to improve it in this semester. We found that our club wasnt effective that we had attracted fewer and fewer new members and lost new members. I had done a survey on those new memebers about their comments or feelings to our club. I found that people couldnt get melted into our club through those games because they felt people played within their own group/circle.Also, some people didnt even know our club existed. In order to be more effective, we work on human resource management--every officer has his or her own responsibility. For that first Spring semester meeting, we assinged one position for every officer and made sure every officer understands what would be going on in every event. However, there was one officer, who was supposed to be a MC, got into an emergency and couldnt attend the meeting. So, we immediately assign another officer to run the event. Although there was an incident, we still could make it smooth. This first meeting was kinda successful because we got good feedbacks from the guests. Those guests think our event was much better than those of last semester.

  1. That sounds like a success! Although you faced some obsticles at the last minute, you were able to overcome them and accomplish the task successfully. Good management, I believe, comes from trial and error and making the best out of the situation that is presented. Being able to overcome obsticles allows you to learn from your experiences and improve your management skills in the future.

  2. I think that its great you were able to overcome the obstacle you were faced with so quickly. Your swiftness in taking action shows the efficiency you have at managing the problems that are thrown at you unexpectedly, something that I'm sure many people are not able to do quite so easily. But I think you should host more events and hand out flyers on a regular basis so that your club organization can become more well known throughout the school.

  3. wow, I never go to any club, I didn't know baruch clubs management can so complicated. So glad that you resolved your problem. I think it's a good idea to advertise your club and the events that you are hosting. Between work and school, many students like me don't really know what's going on around anymore. At the same time, many students complain about no campus life.

  4. I've once been to the club you're talking about. I think the main problem, like what you mention, is that people don't really melt in. Those games don't really make everyone get know each other and play. Guests may feel like, " these games aren't for me, but those who really get know to each other already. If you guys can fix this problem, your club is great one. It's nice to hear that you guys got such a big improvement. I will go there once I have time.
